Pre-Surgical Evaluations

Pre-surgical evaluations are provided for bariatric surgery, spinal cord stimulators, and pain pumps. Other pre-surgical evaluations are accepted on a case-by-case basis. Some pre-surgical evaluations can be completed via Telehealth, and are available to anyone residing in a PSYPACT state. For a list of participating PSYPACT states, please visit  https://psypact.gov/page/psypactmap.

Why is a pre-surgical evaluation needed?

Pre-surgical evaluations are needed by your medical team (and required by insurance companies) to ensure you understand and are capable of handling recovery and the post-surgical care instructions. Mental health disorders, poor motivation, and other factors can negatively impact recovery.

What does a pre-surgical evaluation entail?

Pre-surgical evaluations involve an interview with Dr. Gall lasting roughly 45-90 minutes and completion of one or more questionnaires each lasting about 45 minutes or longer. A report will be written and sent to your physician (with a signed release form) typically within 7 days of the evaluation date.
